LEGOLAND Discovery Center Atlanta Invites Community to Choose Featured MINILAND Landmarks

Area LEGO Lovers Can Vote Online to Select Attraction Highlights on October 21

ATLANTA (October 21, 2011) – To gear up for its highly anticipated opening at Phipps Plaza, LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Atlanta is getting creative to get the community involved. Beginning October 21, brick buffs can vote online to choose which celebrated Atlanta landmarks get the LEGO® treatment. The winning Atlanta icons will be immortalized in LEGO bricks and featured in the MINILAND® portion of the attraction.

MINILAND is the most distinctive part of every LEGOLAND Discovery Center because it is unique to the area where the attraction is located. MINILAND at LEGOLAND Discovery Center Atlanta will feature a miniature landscape of area buildings, attractions and other significant sites. Starting October 21, fans can go to the LEGOLAND Discovery Center Atlanta website, click the banner at the bottom of the page and nominate the landmarks they would like to see created out of LEGO bricks. On November 4, the nominations will be assessed and the top 20 contenders announced. From this list, participants will then vote for the top 10 landmarks through November 17, and the top 10 will be announced on November 18.

“We’re excited about getting the community involved in our MINILAND attraction,” said Merlin Entertainments U.S. Divisional Director Janine DiGioacchino. “Since they work and play in the city, Atlanta-area local LEGO lovers know what it takes to make their MINILAND great. We look forward to hearing the community’s opinion and getting started on building a fun, family-focused experience.”

The nomination and voting processes will take place online at the LEGOLAND Discovery Center Atlanta website at www.legolanddiscoverycenter.com/atlanta/en/index.htm. The top 10 landmarks will be announced the beginning of November on the attraction’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/LDCatlanta.

LEGOLAND Discovery Center Atlanta is scheduled to open in Phipps Plaza April 2012. This will be the third LEGOLAND Discovery Center in the United States. Described as stepping into the biggest box of LEGO bricks in the world, the $15 million, 30,000-square-foot interactive attraction will feature a MINILAND exhibit which recreates landmark buildings in Atlanta out of LEGO bricks, hands-on play areas, a 4D Cinema, master classes from the LEGO Master Model Builder, LEGO rides, and special party rooms for birthdays and other celebrations. This highly interactive and educational 2-3 hour indoor experience is ideal for families with children.
