Addiction in the Jewish Community - Speaker: Rabbi Mark Borovitz

02/12/2012 - 7:00pm
02/12/2012 - 10:00pm
Etc/GMT-5

Rabbi Mark Borovitz is the Senior Rabbi and Spiritual Leader of Congregation Beit T’shuvah and the COO of the Beit T’shuvah Recovery Program. Mark is an inspiring teacher and speaker on issues relating to addiction, faith, and the Jewish community. He knows the topic not just from books or research…but from experience. At a young age, he entered into a life of crime and substance abuse. After a second term in prison, he decided to move out of the darkness, towards the light…eventually becoming a rabbi.

Rabbi Borovitz is the author of “The Holy Thief: A Con man’s Journey from Darkness to Light,” which chronicles his journey from con man to Rabbi and community leader. He will discuss the issues of addiction, co-dependency and related harmful behaviors in the Jewish community. Mark draws attention to the problem of addiction and to the powerful ammunition against it, both in counteraction and prevention.

The Sunday presentation is part of a three-day Scholar in Residence program hosted by Temple Beth Tikvah and Nachshon that also includes a Jewish Clergy Roundtable, Educators and Youth Leaders Luncheon and a program for 8-12th grade students and their parents.

To RSVP to the Sunday event, email: RSVP@bethtikvah.com or here on Facebook.
