Greater Atlanta Hadassah Receives $10,000 Donation

Northwestern Mutual Foundation recognizes local representative's community service efforts.

The Greater Atlanta Hadassah chapter of Hadassah, the Women’s Zionist Organization of America, has received a $10,000 grant from the Northwestern Mutual Foundation in recognition of financial representative Rita Loventhal’s outstanding volunteer commitment. The grant was given as part of the Northwestern Mutual’s 17th annual national Community Service Award program.

     Loventhal, an Atlanta resident, is one of 26 Northwestern Mutual financial professionals recognized nationally as a top volunteer. On Aug. 10, Loventhal presented Greater Atlanta Hadassah with a check for $10,000 from the Northwestern Mutual Foundation. The grant money will be utilized for Check it Out!, a Hadassah program in which the organization and its local partner, Northside Hospital, have educated thousands of high school girls in Gwinnett, DeKalb, Fulton and Cobb counties about the importance of breast self examination and the early detection of breast cancer.

     “Rita makes positive contributions for both clients and the Metro Atlanta community,” said Northwestern Mutual Foundation president Kimberley Goode. “This effort, along with many others supported by the Northwestern Mutual field force, helps us secure future generations, and we’re excited to see Greater Atlanta Hadassah and Rita continue their essential work in the Atlanta area.”

     Since Northwestern Mutual started the Community Service Award program in 1995, the company has donated more than $3 million on its representatives’ behalf to over 300 nonprofit organizations across the country. The Community Service Award program is open to more than 9,000 Northwestern Mutual financial representatives, assistant financial representatives and financial representative interns, recognizing their individual dedication to charitable organizations and philanthropic projects.

     “Hadassah’s life-saving work impacts people around the world,” Loventhal said. “With these generous funds from Northwestern Mutual, we will be able to expand the Greater Atlanta Chapter’s ‘Check It Out’ breast cancer education program, which already reaches nearly 2,000 high school girls every year and teaches them that early detection saves lives.”
