Bernard Kohn, 94

       Bernard Kohn, age 94, of Atlanta, formerly of Boston, MA, Long Island, NY and Bethlehem, NH died November 14, 2010.

       Survivors include his loving wife of 68 years, Carol Kohn; daughter and son in law: Linda Bressler Wand and Dr. Ronald Wand, Dunwoody; son, Ken Kohn, Rockville Centre, NY; son and daughter in law: Jack and Charlene Kohn, Portsmouth, NH; grandchildren: Kimberly Harper, Scott Kohn, Jonathan Kohn, Debra Brown, David Bressler, Jennifer Linowes, Jeffrey Wand and Joshua Wand; great grandchildren: Zachary, Jared, Hannah, Alexis, Micah, Jaren, Simon and Levi.

       Mr Kohn was a graduate of Boston Latin School and the University of Massachusetts. After graduation, he enlisted in the Army Signal Corp where he served two years during WWII. At the end of his service, he began his career at Abraham and Strauss, NY as a carpet and flooring salesman and remained there for 25 years. He was a charter member of Reform Congregation of Merrick, Long Island and the president of it’s Sunday school. After leaving Abraham and Strauss, he moved his family to Littleton, NH where he opened his own furniture and upholstery business.

      Mr. Kohn was very active in his synagogue, in Bethlehem, NH, often leading services. The synagogue library was named in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Kohn. He also tutored Hebrew to B’nai Mitzvah students.

      Mr. Kohn was the founder of the Bethlehem Junior Golf Program which provided free weekly golf lessons and equipment to children in the community. Mr. Kohn did not rest after retiring from the furniture business. He continued to be an active part of the Bethlehem, NH community. He continued his work with the golf program and became a substitute teacher for grades Kindergarten through sixth grade. He taught until his 91st birthday. He was a board member of the Copper Canyon Camp for underprivileged children.

      His stories will be remembered fondly by his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and students. Sign online guest book at www.edressler.com.
