Greenfield Hebrew Academy
Greenfield Hebrew Academy is entering its 58th school year with a bang.
After last year's renewal of energy from winning the Microsoft Bing Raise the Roof competition to our first ever Evening of Honor, GHA is on fire. GHA is all about the pursuit of excellence in General and Judaic Studies and extracurricular activities while emphasizing the critical development and refinement of the moral and ethical values in each student. GHA brings all parts of the community together in a positive and embracing manner, promoting compatibility and cohesion in the Jewish community.
There is also cohesion with our Board including a seamless transition from Michael Siegel, GHA's immediate past president, to our newly appointed president Dr. David Frankel. After passing the torch to Frankel, Siegel expressed, "It has been one of the great rewards of my life serving GHA. There is no better beneficiary of my time than the school that I graduated from and the school that made me who I am. In true L'dor v Dor fashion, I am proud to turn the reigns over to David Frankel, my lifelong friend. David's father was Headmaster of the Hebrew Academy when I attended as a student. David's mother was my first grade Hebrew teacher. My father was President of the Hebrew Academy. I am not sure that our fathers imagined that together we would lead GHA 30 years after they did so, but here we are standing on their shoulders."
The 2011-2012 Board of Trustees is a collaboration of dedicated grandparents, parents, alumni and community members who believe the school has given Jewish children the very foundations needed to be well-rounded and well-educated Jewish citizens of the world. Dr. Frankel is honored to lead a school he has called home for most of his life. Frankel explains, "There is a resurgence of energy infusing the halls of GHA that is so inspiring to me. I am so proud to be part of a school that can adapt to the ever-changing times while never losing its identity. Our principal, Leah Summers, is first class and goes above and beyond the call of duty on a daily basis. Our Headmaster, Rabbi Lee Buckman, is innovative in his thinking and truly cares about his staff. And the faculty, they are not "just" educators; they put their heart and soul into these kids. When my wife and I drop off our children for school we feel at ease knowing they are in the best hands besides ours."
The board is already at work preparing for a brilliant school year ahead. This year's board, with new additions including Todd Beresin, Alan Minsk, Gavin Cohen, Jenn Slutzky, Florie Glusman, Dara Grant, Darren Joel, Natasha Lebowitz, Steve Linowes and Sari Wachtel, comes with a varied wealth of knowledge in many fields from accounting to law to physicians to marketing to public relations and to holding leadership roles in other outside Jewish organizations. Alongside Dr. Frankel on the Executive Board is AJ Robinson-Vice President, Todd Beresin-Treasurer, Sammy Grant-Asst. Treasurer, Michael Siegel-Past President, Judy Stolovitz-Secretary, Anne Karlin-At Large and Eileen Price-At Large. With everyone on the board having a deep rooted connection to GHA and impeccable leadership skills, this is sure to be the year to watch.
